Aid to Sagaing’s Forgotten Corners

In the shadow of conflict and natural disaster, hope often arrives in the form of simple necessities—clean water, rice, oil, and food supplies. Over the past few weeks, our partners on the ground in Sagaing Region have carried out a remarkable effort to deliver emergency relief to communities devastated by both the earthquake and ongoing violence.

These areas, some of the most remote and militarized corners of Myanmar, have long been beyond the reach of conventional aid. Yet despite the dangers, our supported field teams navigated broken roads, active conflict zones, and widespread displacement to bring life-saving food and hygiene items to those in desperate need.

Photos from recent distributions tell the story best: community members packaging goods, others unloading heavy sacks of rice from the back of trucks, and volunteers handing out snacks and supplies to children and families. It was a community-driven effort powered by solidarity, grit, and sheer compassion.

Each parcel distributed contained not just food staples—like potatoes, oil, and canned goods—but also hygiene items essential for maintaining dignity and health in the aftermath of disaster. These were not one-time handouts, but part of a broader, phased relief mission that has already reached over 2,000 individuals with food and shelter, and over 1,000 with direct WASH and medical support.

What makes this effort all the more extraordinary is the context: many recipients were survivors twice over—first of a catastrophic earthquake, and then of military assaults that followed in its wake. In one of the darkest chapters of Myanmar’s recent history, this quiet but determined act of care stood as a beacon of humanity.

As always, we remain humbled by the courage of our partners on the ground and deeply grateful to our donors who make these efforts possible. .
