From Two Chickens to a Growing Future
When we first introduced our livelihood initiative in Kyauktaw, our hope was simple: provide families with a sustainable way to rebuild their lives after years of hardship. Today, we are beginning to see that hope become reality.
One of the families participating in the project, a household of 10 family members, has already seen encouraging progress from the two breeding chickens they received.
Their chickens are now laying eggs regularly, providing an important source of nutrition for the family. Even more encouraging, several eggs have successfully hatched, and a new generation of healthy chicks is already growing alongside the adult birds.
What began as two chickens is steadily becoming a small flock.
For a family living with limited livelihood opportunities, this represents far more than poultry. Fresh eggs help improve household nutrition, while additional chickens create opportunities to expand their flock over time. As the birds mature, the family will have greater flexibility to produce food, generate income, and become less dependent on outside assistance.
The photos shared with us show simple nesting boxes filled with freshly laid eggs, newly hatched chicks following their mother, and a modest backyard coop where the family continues to care for their growing flock. These are small but meaningful signs that the project is working exactly as intended.
This progress reflects the heart of our livelihood approach. Rather than providing only short-term relief, we aim to equip families with practical resources they can build upon themselves. Every egg laid and every chick hatched represents another step toward greater food security, resilience, and dignity.
Thank you for making stories like this possible. Your support is helping Rohingya families move beyond immediate survival and begin building a more secure future, one small step, and one new life, at a time.
