Bundles of Care

At Better Burma, we believe every child deserves to begin life with dignity, warmth, and care, no matter where they are born. Between January and July 2025, with your support and trusted local partner, we delivered 105 baby supply kits to some of the most vulnerable mothers along the Thai–Burma border.

These kits were distributed in Mae Sot, Mae La refugee camp, and IDP camps in Karen State, reaching women who often lack access to even the most basic newborn necessities.

What’s Inside a Baby Supply Kits

Each kit costs around 400 THB (about $11 USD) and contains:

  • Six baby wrappers

  • Baby clothing

  • Soap and baby powder

  • Hat, gloves, and socks

  • A soft teddy bear (donated by Stark Production)

But these kits are more than just supplies, they come packed in hand-sewn, reusable bags crafted through HFA-BCMF’s Giving Back Program. Patients and caregivers recovering at BCMF’s B.K. Kee Patient House in Chiang Mai learn sewing skills and decorate each bag with colorful, hope-filled designs. These handmade bags symbolize resilience, care, and community support, turning a simple aid package into a heartfelt gift.

Reaching Mothers in Need

Distributing the kits required careful coordination with clinics, refugee camp leaders, and local health workers. Deliveries in Mae Sot were straightforward, but reaching Mae La camp and remote Karen IDP sites meant overcoming transportation and security challenges.

Here’s how the 105 kits were shared:

  • Refugee mothers in Mae Sot: 14

  • Migrant mothers in Mae Sot: 19

  • IDP mothers, Ler Khaw camp: 16

  • IDP mothers, Plaw Tah Poh camp: 4

  • Refugee mothers, Mae La camp: 35

  • Mothers supported directly by HFA-BCMF: 6

  • Mothers at Mae Tao Clinic OG ward: 7

  • Mothers at Sunshine Care Center, Mae Sot: 4

One new mother in Mae La shared:

“I worried about how I would care for my baby because I have nothing. Receiving this kit gave me peace of mind. The hat and socks keep my baby warm, and I am very thankful to those who gave this support.”
