When Villages Turn to Ash: A Follow-Up from Chaung-U Township
Families from Kyi Gone Village forced to flee after their homes were destroyed are now scattered across monastic compounds in Chaung-U Township, seeking safety wherever it can be found.
In recent weeks, emergency food assistance reached these displaced villagers as they sheltered in different monastic camps. Relief was distributed across multiple sites, including two Monastic Camps (names will not be mentioned for security reasons), where displaced families are sheltering temporarily. Each location faces its own challenges, but the needs are shared: food, safety, dignity, and time to recover from shock and displacement.
As always, this work was community-led. Local teams assessed needs, coordinated quietly, and ensured food reached those most affected. For security reasons, faces are blurred and details kept confidential but the reality is clear. This is what survival looks like in today’s Myanmar: people eating together in exile, supported by compassion and solidarity that crosses borders.
To our donors and supporters: your generosity made these meals possible. As the year turns, these small but vital acts of care are helping families endure the days ahead. Thank you for standing with communities when villages turn to ash, and for continuing to walk alongside them into whatever comes next.
