Documents That Open a Safer Path
Valid documents can be an important step toward greater safety and stability for mothers rebuilding their lives in Mae Sot. For a mother raising a family, having the right paperwork may affect whether she can work legally, access essential services, and move around the community without the same fear of being stopped or arrested.
Yet obtaining these documents can involve several fees, and covering them may be difficult for mothers already facing financial uncertainty. Support has helped meet some of these costs. So far, reported expenses include THB 31,600 in new registration fees for four mothers, and THB 74,820 in work permit and CI fees for seven mothers.
This assistance helps mothers take practical steps toward greater security for themselves and their families. Valid documentation does not resolve every challenge they may face, but it can make daily life more manageable and help them pursue work and services with greater confidence.
The impact of this support is also continuing to grow. As they are able, mothers have been repaying some of their documentation costs. So far, THB 52,810 has been returned to a fund set aside to help cover documentation expenses for mothers in the future.
That fund offers a way for support to reach beyond the first group. Contributions toward documentation help mothers now, while repayments made when possible can help other mothers facing similar barriers later. This is a gradual process, shaped by what each mother is able to contribute as she rebuilds stability.
Paperwork can seem like a small thing from the outside. For a mother trying to work, access services, and care for her children, however, it can open up important possibilities and bring greater peace of mind. We are grateful to everyone whose support is helping make this possible and helping extend that support to mothers in the future.
If you would like to help mothers who have fled abusive homes rebuild their lives with greater safety and stability, please consider supporting this work. Your contribution can help provide practical assistance, including help with essential documentation.
